Order of Christian Initiation for Children (OCIC)
There are two pathways to joining the Catholic Church: Infant Baptism and OCIC What is OCIA? OCIA stands for Order of Christian Initiation for Adults. While St. Joseph does have OCIA for men and women above the age of 18, we also offer OCIC for Children aged between 7 and 16. OCIC is the same exact process that the adults go through, but the classes and material is specially adapted for younger minds. The program consists of two (2) years of formation. During the first year of formation, the child will meet on Sundays, and after class, the family should attend mass together. During the second year of formation, the child will join the Religious Education students for class on Wednesdays. The Catholic Church teaches that any child who is seven (7) years or older is of a catechetical age. This means that they have the ability to reason and discern what we teach them about their faith. Thus, when they are presented for receiving the sacraments, they do so on their own faith and desire; not their parents' faith and desire as in infant baptism. Baptism Baptism is the first of three (3) Sacraments which initiate the individual into the Mission of Christ to bring peace into the world, and into God's family, the Church. Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation complete a person's initiation and incorporation into the Body of Christ. Eucharist Eucharist is the second of three (3) Sacraments which completes Christian initiation. The Lord addresses an invitation to us, urging us to receive him in the Sacrament of the Eucharist: "Truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you." (John 6:53) Confirmation Confirmation is the third of three (3) Sacraments which initiate the individual more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Orden de Iniciacion Cristiana para Niños (OCIC)
Hay dos vías de incorporarse a la Iglesia católica: Bautismo del lactante y OCIC Que es OICA? OICA significa Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos. Si bien St. Joseph tiene RCIA para hombres y mujeres mayores de 18 años, también ofrecemos OCIC para niños de entre 7 y 16 años. OCIC es exactamente el mismo proceso por el que pasan los adultos, pero las clases y el material están especialmente adaptados para las mentes más jóvenes. El programa consta de dos (2) años de formación. Durante el primer año de formación, el niño se reunirá los domingos, y después de clase, la familia deberá asistir a Misa juntos. Durante el segundo año de formación, el niño se unirá a los estudiantes de Educación Religiosa para la clase de los miércoles. Por tanto, como testigos de Cristo, están más estrictamente obligados a difundir y defender la fe de palabra y obra.
